February RDD Spotlight Leader= Cassie {Mumaw} Wallpe

Cassie (Mumaw) Wallpe

What is your agricultural role:

Sheep Producer, Agriculture Education Instructor/ FFA Advisor, Sheep & Goat Judge

Farm Name:

Wallpe Oxfords

City and State of which you live:

Greensburg, IN

Questions:

Are you superstitious? What is it?

To a extent, I will only stop at certain gas stations or food restaurants at particular Exit numbers. If sheep are in the trailer- we will not dine in. My trailer tires show the remnants of many drive-thru curbs.

It’s SHOW day, what can you not leave without?
Show Day, FFA Contest, Judging gig- I will NOT leave home without my Herbal Life Energy Tea!

Who has been your biggest influence in the agricultural industry?
My love for the sheep industry derived from my parents, introducing me to the different facets it had to offer, and then allowing me to chose which avenue was best for me. Once we started our own flock, Jason Hauger has played an instrumental part of our success amongst breeding decisions and daily production obstacles.

What is your favorite thing to do in the barn?
Spend time with my family. Aniston loves anything with the sheep on the stand- therefore leg days are with her. Bryson requests weekly to help clean the barn, so cleaning days are for him. Nate will enter the barn if something is broken, I promise I don't secretly destroy things on purpose! I enjoy the nights watching sheep eat, exercise and seeing them evolve into the breeding progeny, I chose.

What is your most prized award you have won? Why was it so meaningful to you?
I am very thankful for the honors we have achieved in the ring with our Oxfords, however being asked to judge Louisville twice is something I value higher than the ribbons and banners. The opportunity to evaluate the best showman in the country, was the most taxing yet rewarding accomplishment I've ever had within the industry.

What is your favorite show/sale? Why?
North American International Livestock Expo. There has always been such a high prestige set on that stage, number of livestock exhibited, number of states represented, and the connections being made.

What is your go to hype sone while working livestock?
Anything by Casey Donahew, It's on repeat 24/7!

Advice to Others:

What is a piece of advice you give to those individuals who are part of the livestock industry?

Follow your own path. Priorities, friends, partnerships, and trends all change in time. Be true to what you want to accomplish and leave your impact where it means the most. Never get caught up in the side noise, it will only hold you back.
